Dealing With Ambiguity

Sometimes there is no clear narrative to evaluate because you simply don't know what you are being held accountable for. This carries its own unique misery: you cannot examine or make amends for what you cannot see.

The only reasonable response is to wait for clarity, a shift in dynamics, or enough information to begin the process. In the meantime, your task is to remain accessible and resist the temptation to fill the silence with a self-authored narrative that may be entirely inaccurate.

Questions to Explore

Have you asked what the grievance is, or are you waiting for them to volunteer the information?

What narrative have you constructed to explain their silence? How sure are you that it is accurate?

Is there anyone in your shared network – a mutual friend, another family member – who might possess insight you lack?

How are you actively maintaining your own mental and emotional health in the current moment?
