Parental Duties

It's worth pausing to take inventory of your true obligations as a parent. Did you feed, clothe, and shelter your child? Did you get them to adulthood in one piece? Did you offer your best, even on the days when you were running on fumes?

For most, the answer is yes. That doesn't erase the hard moments or settle every score. But it belongs in the accounting. The goal isn't absolution; it's accuracy. You can't make a solid course correction on the basis of a false record.

Questions to Explore

If you tallied the reality of what you provided as a parent – the tangible resources, the emotional investments, the sacrifices – what would actually be on that ledger?

Where do you think you fell short?

What burdens were you carrying during those years that your child may not have known about?


Can you see a difference between “I failed” and “I was imperfect under difficult circumstances?”
